Miss you Grandpa

Mom, Grandma Jarvis, Shay & me

Mom & Grandpa Jarvis

Grandpa & Grandma Jarvis

Grandpa Jarvis

9 years ago today my Grandpa Jarvis passed away. In September 2000 my grandpa was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. He had battled heart disease for a long time. He was a smoker, but quit cold turkey when he was told it was killing him (I know........no brainer cigarettes=death) and had 3 open heart surgeries. I remember getting the call from my step dad Kevin, I was sitting on my couch 5 months pregnant with Mackenzie and he told me Grandpa was bad and he only had about 6 months to live. I just sat on the couch and cried. It was a downward spiral from there. We were in and out of the hospital from that day on. A couple of months later we found out he had lymphoma. On March 21st Mackenzie was born and Grandpa found a whole new reason to be around, he loved that little girl. I can remember coming home from the hospital and up the walk came Grandma & Grandpa Jarvis to visit, he wanted to hold his grand baby, he didn't have the strength to get out of bed but boy he mustered up enough of it to drag her car seat as close to him as he could get it. Grandpa you were awesome. You always made us laugh with your jokes or the funny noises you made to scare the cats. Ahh and charlie the ferret, hahaha I can remember you sleeping on the couch at moms house and he would run up your pant leg and scare the crap out of you, you would jump and we would pee our pants laughing. I miss your smile, I miss your BBQ chicken, I miss watching you wash your bald head on the back porch in the summer time. I miss you getting the golf cart out and letting us go around in circles in your yard all day long and offering Stephanie a quarter if she would have run over the bad peach tree instead of the good one! Grandpa I just miss you so so much. Thanks for the wonderful family memories that I will always cherish. I wish you were still here to enjoy your grand kids they should would have enjoyed you. Until we meet again keep em' all straight up there and give grandpa & grandma Corder a hug and kiss from Big Toad. xoxo Jen

Painting

Since we moved into our house we have said we wanted to paint! So yesterday we got up and got moving. We went to pick out paint and went back and forth on the color we wanted and FINALLY decided on burnt spice with peach accent. We really like it, minus a few spots that the paint ran (never decided to paint when it's raining outside & it's humid, doesn't make for a good combo!) so we will be painting the living room for a few more days, but overall we are please with the results.  Next up the den!

Family Traditions

I love family traditions, from special recipies to ways we celebrate the holidays.  One of our favorite family traditions that Todd & I started when we got married was making his Grandma Armstrong's homemade fresh strawberry cake for ALL birthdays!  My dad and I were sitting outside eating her cake for Mackenzie's birthday and I told dad that we should add cream cheese to the icing to give it a better taste! so I did and it made the icing creamy and great!!!

Todd's sister gave me a taste book gift certificate for Christmas.........great gift :) I'm gathering up all my favorite family recipies and I'm going to put them all in a cookbook that that can be passed down for generation to generation.  I love to cook so when I'm done with this, it should big pretty big! can't wait for the finished product.  I think every family should have a special cookbook of all their favorite recipies........so....get started http://www.tastebook.com/  Hope you all enjoy.  Happy Wednesday!
